Aikin Career Fair Welcome Sign

Aitkin High School was full of excitement during a career fair featuring 42 businesses and 11 colleges on Wednesday, October 3.

Students, teachers, parents, and the public were able to interact at booths presented by both local and regional employers. Planners of the career fair wanted to expose students to careers that are in demand locally. Over 600 students from McGregor and Aitkin School districts attended the fair and visited with employment representatives. Youth learned about careers by participating in several hands on activities, ranging from union trades to nursing care.

Jen Bertsch from Moxy Coaching was hired the day before the career fair to educate the students through a presentation on career fair etiquette. Jen spoke about the importance of being bold, unafraid, and intentional as students participated in the booths and exhibits. Students were also given information on how to dress when job searching, how to give a proper handshake, and the basics of being a professional.

The career fair was a fun and successful event where students were able to experience over 75 different career fields. Parent Wendie Carlson stated, "Both my kids enjoyed it! One of them even forgot to go to lunch! Great job!" Jason Henke, high school teacher, said, "The students I talked to all said they really like it. One senior seems to have solidified her choice for college after talking to the reps. Walking through it looked like one of the best career fairs I have seen pretty much anywhere. Nice work!"
